I showed some of my rough page sketches on Instagram the other day, and some of you were interested to see more; so I figure I should share them here…

Despite all the intricate planning I do with The Phantom Pleasure story, I’m generally motivated by emotion when it comes to drawing it. That’s typically how I approach most of the art I create for Instagram, the words come easy and then I let the visuals come out naturally without much technical planning. Obviously, that’s not a great way to make comics and I’ve slowly learned to break this habit. Clearly communicating the action and story is important, after all.

Bahaha, can you tell I don’t like sketching ideas?

Echo Sweats and struggles in private domain as ugly memories replay in her sleep, something that never happened when she lived in the DEBUG LEVELS. Her Synth Suit, Nyx, has relaxed into a loose blanket to fit Echo’s sleep mode preferences.

On one of the many Pop-Up Promo Ads surrounding Echo’s bed, a mysterious user seems to be watching her sleep. The alarm goes off at 8:88. I’ll add the sound effects later.

But as Echo jolts to consciousness, the face on the screen is gone. This link and mouse game will continue.

Echo, masking her confusion even to herself, decides to let it go for now. She has something more important to worry about tonight…

Pretty funny, huh? While posting these, I noticed that I tend to sketch panel ideas at a head-on, very flat perspective. It’s especially noticeable in the first panel, the finished drawing is appropriately tilted back, as if the viewer was elevated above Echo as she Sleeps.

I have a new set of pages coming very soon, so please look forward to it! I can break them down in more detail and share some more process shots, if you all are interested.

Finished inks without shading or lighting.

That’s all for now! See you in Geo-City One again soon…

With love,
Lordess
