Hello, all! I’m still drawing and writing like an animal, working as much as I can on the print version of THE PHANTOM PLEASURE. I think the first episode will be around 30 pages, and has a pretty satisfying arc for what is basically an opening chapter. I’ve managed to streamline the storytelling without sacrificing the world-building, and even added some surprises. I really hope you all like the changes, and I can’t wait to share some of the completed pages here; probably as a members-only perk. Hopefully I’ll have some more details about the publishing soon.
Here is a random sketch of Halo sneaking up on Echo, this was the basis for a collage piece that I recently shared on my instagram:
Here is the collage version:
And here is the Fighting Mode Synth Suit art I brought up in the last newsletter!
Nyx (Echo’s Snyth Suit) alters its shape and form to handle whatever situation Echo might find herself in. Unlike other Synth Suits you’ll find in Geo-City One, the particular Emotion Engine inside Nyx is one of a kind, able to take on extreme configurations like the Fighting Mode pictured here.
The strange, semi-living synthetic cables that form Echo’s Synth Suit are legion, but not infinite. The Fighting Mode rapidly moves the fibers and tightly coils them around Echo’s limbs, increasing her mass and strength in quick, localized bursts. Unfortunately, doing this exposes other parts of her body, leaving her vulnerable to counter-attacks. To compensate, Echo has a fast and fluid fighting style, and relies on dirty tricks to stay alive. But that’s fine with her, as she is a Rogue-class user, after all…
In the next update, I’ll share some of my drawing process, showing how I go from photo references (generally just photos of me in my studio, wearing a shiny suit) to the final drawing. I have no idea if anyone could (or should) learn anything from how I do it, but maybe you’ll find it interesting! See you again soon.
Oh, one more thing! Here’s some of the music I’ve been listening to while working, I hope you find it as inspiring as I do:
遠い約束 (A Faraway Promise) By 光田康典 Mitsuda Yasunori (From MYTH, the Xenogears orchestral album)
THE KEEP Soundtrack by Tangerine Dream
Departure From The Northern Wasteland by Michael Hoenig
LEGEND Soundtrack by Tangerine Dream
